Pamela Seabury Cottrell Bradford, 89, died Saturday, September 10, 2016 due to complications from skin cancer.She was the wife of the late Larned(Ned) G. Bradford, an editor -in-chief and Director of Little, Brown Co. book publishers, later a division of Time Inc. and then Time Warner. They worked together, first in Boston, and then in New York City. She also worked for Signet books and Harper's Magazine.Pam was born in Newport and loved Aquidneck Island, returning to the island in retirement. Her mother, Elizabeth Vernon Cottrell was descended from three founders of Newport; Nicholas Easton, John Coggeshall and Jeremy Clarke, and two founders of Portsmouth; William and Anne Hutchinson. All five people contributed to the beginning of democracy in this country and this, the world.Her father, James Benedict (Ben) Cottrell III, was a descendant of the "old country" (Ireland). He managed the George E. Vernon Co for the entire family. He was also a great storyteller.Pam had two sisters, the late Virginia (Nippy) Vernon Cottrell Knowles (Charles Sumner) and Elizabeth (Chi Chi) Vernon Cottrell Briggs McKown (David) of Vero Beach, Florida and a brother, Michael Riordan Cottrell, of this city.She leaves her beloved children and grandchildren; her son William L.G. Bradford and his wife Joellen Wlodkowski with their two children, Harry Larned Bradford and Charlotte Rose Bradford, and her daughter Kate Cottrell Bradford and her husband, Roger Scholl with their two children, Rebecca Bradford Scholl and Julia Taylor Scholl.Donations in her name may be given to the Aquidneck Land Trust 790 aquidneck Avenue Middletown, RI 02842 All services will be private.The family would like to give thanks to Dr. Donald Derolf and Dr. Joseph Pianka for their excellent care given to her.
