Charlene Jane Willingham, 65, of Middletown passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 at her home. She was surrounded by her family.

Born in Newport, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Virginia (Weston) Johnson.

She graduated from Rogers High School and attended Northeastern University & Boston College. In addition to being a dedicated homemaker and an amazing botanist, she also worked at Newport Naval Base for several years. Her interests included: yard sales, shopping, botany, and spending time with her family.

Charlene leaves behind her children: Tim Brown of Warwick, Lamond Zee Johnson of Newport, Crystal Mattison of Saginaw, MI, Amy Willingham of Hampton, VA, Jose Willingham of Mesquite, NV and Kimberly Willingham of Norfolk, VA.


Her grandchildren & great grandchildren include: Isaiah Brown, Dominique Brown, Lailah Brown, Diamond-Lee Johnson, Zaire Johnson, JoeColtrane Johnson, Karma Johnson, Thelonious Johnson, Adderley-Wonder Johnson, Celeste Mattison, Symphany Riddick, Melady Riddick, Janelle Willingham, Lola Bojalad, Jada Willingham, Torrey Willingham, Alicia Willingham, Israel Willingham, Phanora Willingham & great-grandchildren: Gabriel Eide & Watson Brown.

She also leaves behind her brothers and sisters: William Johnson and wife Vale, Clifford Johnson and wife Dianne, David Johnson, Robert Johnson, Gary Johnson and wife Joann, Wayne Johnson and wife Lee, Kevin Johnson and wife Marie, brother-in-law Leon Bradley, Lee Weston, Virginia Lombard, Pamela Massey, her twin sister, Cheryl Torrey and husband Larry, Dawn Daniels and husband Tommy, and sisters-in-law Janice Johnson and Irene Weston, as well as her Aunt Beatrice Link of Newport. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews.

Charlene was the sister of the late Harold Weston, Billy Weston (Irene), Gordon Johnson, Arleen Johnson and Phyllis Bradley (Leon).

Calling hours will be held Friday, January 19, 2018 from 11:00AM to 1:00PM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.

Her burial will be private.
