Judith Smeltz

Judith (Connolly) Smeltz, 71, of Newport died Friday, June 16, 2017, surrounded by her loving family, at home in Newport. Ms. Smeltz was born June 4, 1946 in South Boston, MA. She is the daughter of the late John Michael and the late Helen (Curran) Connolly. Judy was a very loving, caring and compassionate mother, sister, grandmother, partner and friend. She was always there to give you a boost up or a hug, or whatever was needed. She was a CNA for many years helping many people along the way, in her younger years she was a bartender for many years.The most important thing to Judy was her family, she loved all of them equally and dearly. She was also a very important part of her partner's, Paula Olson, life, for the last 15 years. During the years with Paula, the times that they shared were some of the happiest times in her life. Judy was full of life and loved life. She is survived by her children; Judi Ann Beck of Newport, RI, Michael Melchione, of Middletown, her twins Rebecca Flowers, of SC, and Regis Smeltz Jr. and his wife Iris, of Jupiter, FL, and her partner Paula Olson of Middletown. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Shane Smeltz, Morriah Flores, Michelle Beck, Madelyn Beck, Michael Melchione Jr. Stella Rose Melchione, Isiah, Jasmine, Joseph, Jason, and Stephen Flowers, Ella and Eden Mae Smeltz. She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Charlie and Brandon Flores and her siblings James Conley, Peggy Canavan, Elaine Donnelly, Annie Quigg, and Michael Connolly. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Joanne, Kathy, Jimmy, Rob, PJ, Karen, Sherry, Michelle, Peggy Ann, Marty, Keri, Jimmy, Tobi Ann, Russell, Brian, Michael and Brian.She is also survived by dear family friends, Lawrence Beck and Regis Smeltz.She is preceded in death by her sister, Kathleen Morrison, her daughter Pamela Houston, and her nephew Thomas Donnelly.Calling hours will be held on Wednesday June 21, 2017 from 10am - 1pm at Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway in Newport. Her funeral will be held immediately following, at 1pm in the Funeral Home.Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park, in Middletown.
