Marlene Hubbard

Middletown a" Marlene Hubbard died the 6th of July at the John Clarke Nursing Center.Born November 28, 1934 in Columbia, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Rev. Rexford Liverman and Flonia M. (Selby) Liverman. She joined the Atmore Holy Temple in Columbia at an early age and was baptized by her grandfather, the late Elder Atmore Liverman, She was educated in the Tyrell County school system and graduated from high school in 1954.Marlene moved to Edenton, N.C. in 1956, where she met and married Luther B. Hubbard. They relocated to Newport in 1961, where they raised their three children, Linda Raye, who predeceased her, Ronald Anthony, and Micheal Anthony. Her husband also preceded her in death, having served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years and retiring from the Federal Government after 22 years of service. Marlene worked at Raytheon as a supervisor and retired in 1995 after 25 years. She was a loving person, always reaching out to lend a helping hand. She had a special love in her heart for children. She had a flair for dressing and hats always made her feel she was well dressed.Daily walks were part of her exercise regimen. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining friends with special recipes that were always a conversation piece.Marlene had eleven siblings, four brothers, Leon and Raymond, who preceded her in death; Jimmie B. (Sylvia); and Rexford J r.; and seven sisters, Laura Alice and Sandra Louella, who predeceased her; Ida Spiver; Ann Liverman; Maggie Dorsey (Cornelius); Nicole Goosby (John); and Deborah Liverman. In addition to her children and siblings, she leaves to mourn three grandchildren, Ronald Anthony Hubbard, Jr., Micheal Anthony Hubbard, Jr., and Micayla Jane Hubbard; former daughters-in-law she loved as daughters, Christine Marie James and Mary Beth Hubbard; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and very special friends Azalea Johnson, Shirley Cook, and Hazel Boyd.Calling hours will be at Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Blvd., Newport, from 10:00-11:30 am Saturday, July 15 followed by a service at 11:30. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Rhode Island Chapter.
