Philip Recupero, 95, of Portsmouth died Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Newport Hospital in Newport, RI. He was the beloved husband of the late Vida Mae (Phillips) Recupero. Born April 25, 1922 in South Braintree, MA, he was the son of the late Antonio and Rosaria (Crisafulli) Recupero. He served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946. He retired from WLNE Channel 6 after many years of service as the chief engineer at the TY tower in Tiverton. He was an avid ham radio operator who enjoyed conversations with people around the world who were familiar with his call sign "W1NWX".He is survived by his sister, Catherine Recupero of Quincy, and his children John Recupero and his wife Patricia, of North Kingstown, RI, Anthony Recupero and his wife Colette, of Warwick, RI, Paul Recupero of Portsmouth, RI, and Janet Lawrence and her husband Paul, of Providence, RI. He is also survived by three grandchildren and six great grandchildrenCalling hours will be Thursday, January 18 from 8:30 am - 9:30 am at Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park, Middletown In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name, to the charity or organization of your choice.
