Adeline "Abby"Marie Poulin, 92, of Middletown, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018 at Newport Hospital in Newport, RI. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph A. and Mary (Andrea) Sousa, and her brother John A. Sousa. Abby was born January 11, 1926 in Newport, RI and returned to her beloved hometown to spend her final years. As a young woman, Abby was an avid swimmer and loved her job as a lifeguard and swim instructor at King's Park. Throughout her life she pursued passions in the library sciences, historical preservation, and oil painting. She was also a prolific crafter, most notably in crochet. An independent spirit, Abby lived in Florida for many years, working at Walt Disney World, which she loved. Abby left a smile on many of those whom she met, and will be remembered for her bright, humorous personality. She will be missed by all who loved her.She is survived by her children: Laurence A. Poulin Jr. (Penny), Mary Ann Poulin of Middletown, RI, and Susanne T. Poulin. She is also survived by her brother Joseph A. Sousa (Kathy). She lives on through her grandchildren: Laura Poulin, and her husband Brian Harty, Laurence A Poulin III (Kara), and Nanette Murray (Zach). She also leaves several nieces and nephews, and five great grandchildren.Calling hours are omitted. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 26 in Jesus Savior Church, 509 Broadway, Newport, RI. Burial will be private. Donations may be made in her memory to Save the Bay (savebay.org) and the Newport Public Library.
