Souza, 85, of 333 Green End Avenue Middletown, RI, formerly of 475 Green End Avenue, Middletown, RI, died Sunday, December 7, 2003 at Grand Islander Health Care Center Middletown, RI. He was the husband of Lillian Rodrigues Souza they were married for sixty-two years. Born in Middletown, RI on June 5, 1918, he was the son of the late Manuel J. and Clara F. Rezendes Souza. Mr. Souza was a World War II Veteran serving his country in the United States Army, from July 17, 1942 to December 9, 1945 he served at Normandy and Northern France, earning the European African Medal, the Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. He worked for many years for Round House Diary, The Elms, and Retired at the age of 70 from the Newport State Airport. Mr. Souza was a Communicant of Jesus Saviour Church. . Besides is wife of sixty-two years he leaves his sister in law Mary Plumley of Portsmouth, RI his niece Betty Rodriques of Newport, RI, and five nephews William Souza of Newport, RI, William Smith of Portsmouth, RI, James Smith of Tampa, FL, and Richard Rodriques and Joe Rodriques, both of Middletown, RI.He was the brother of the late Alfred Souza, Clarence Souza, George Souza, Louis Souza, Alice Souza, Elsie Souza, Hilda Souza, Emily Rodriques, Esther Shellman and Mary Ferreria. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at 8:30 AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway And Vernon Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.
