Alfred "Russ" Peckham Sr

Alfred R. "Russ" Peckham, Sr. 95, of Middletown passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Newport Hospital with his family by his side.For 61 years, he was the husband of the late Helen L. (Figueiredo) Peckham. Born in Newport, he was the son of the late William T. and Emma (Boule) Peckham. Mr. Peckham served in the Navy during WWII and the Korean War, retiring as a Chief Electrician. He was a Past Post Commander for the Middletown VFW, which he was a member for more than 54 years. Alfred's other memberships include the Newport Elks, Naval Reserve Retiree Association and the Fleet Reserve Association in Middletown. He also was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Alfred enjoyed golfing and was an avid camper for many years as part of the Quahoag Chapter.He leaves his children Kathleen "Kitty" Costa and her husband Joel of Portsmouth and Alfred "Rusty" Peckham Jr. and his wife Maureen of Middletown. He was Poppa to his grandchildren Amy Richard of Middletown and Christopher Peckham and his wife Erica of Middletown and his great grandchildren Nathan C. Crowley, Ryker G. Peckham, Paityn C. Peckham and Riley B. PeckhamAlfred was the brother of the late William T. Peckham, Miriam F. Whittemore, and Alice R. Ficke.His funeral will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 10:00AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by a funeral service at 11:00AM in Saint Columba's Berkeley Memorial Chapel, 55 Vaucluse Avenue, Middletown.
