Alice M. Berry, 69, of Newport, RI, passed away peacefully while under hospice care at the Newport Hospital, where she was cared for with dignity and respect. She was the former wife of Victor W. Berry Sr.
Born in Boston, MA on February 28th, 1956, she was the daughter of the late John and Mildred (Close) Pires.
Alice worked as a paraeducator at Sullivan school for many years, and loved her job and her students. She was well loved by her students and respected by her peers. Alice was also a caregiver for many years prior to her career in the schools and her love for children was evident. Alice loved family, friends, music and being social. Her memory for details from the distant past were unmatched. Alice was kind and loving and would open her doors to any friend or family member in need without hesitation.
Alice is survived by her son, Victor W Berry Jr, and his wife, Ann Berry; her grandsons, Kayvon Burks, Victor Trey Berry; and her step-grandson, Jonah Callandret. She also leaves her siblings, Ronald Jaynes, John Pires, Robert Pires, Barbara Owens, Shirley Florendo, and Dianne Polley. Alice was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard "Rocky" Pires and Joseph Pires; and her sisters, Mildred "Peggy" Kelly and June Myers. Additionally, she leaves many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours for friends and family will be held on July 6th from 9:00-11:00 am, with a prayer service at 11:00am at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, Rhode Island. Burial will be private. There will be a repast will be from 1:00-4:00 pm at Vasco Da Gama, 15 Fenner Ave, Newport, RI.
