Portsmouth, RI - Alice Medeiros Alvarnas Piche, 96, of 1631 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, died Friday, December 26, 2008 at 43 Third Street, Newport, the home of her granddaughter Mary.She was the wife of the late Joseph Alvarnas and George Piche.Born in Fall River, MA, on November 3, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Cazmeiro and Mary Braga Medeiros.Mrs. Piche was a Communicant of St. Barnabas Church. She was also an avid crocheter and enjoyed playing bingo. During WWII, Mrs. Piche had worked at the former Naval Torpedo Station of Goat Island.She is survived by a daughter Lucy Sunderland of Portsmouth, RI, two sisters Adeliene Adams and Betty Barretto both of Fall River, MA, seven grandchildren John Sunderland, Patricia Slaby, Mary Naylor, Catherine Sunderland, Susan Cook, Margaret OHara, and Laura Logan, fourteen great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at 9:00 am, from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am, in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2008, from 5-7 pm in the Connors Funeral Home.Memorial donations may be made to St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, 02871.
