Anna Leonard

July 29, 1936 — January 7, 2026

Anna E Leonard, 89, of Bristol, Rhode Island, died on January 7, 2026. She was the wife of Ronald S. Leonard.

Born in Middletown, RI on July 29, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Silvia. Anna was an intelligent and dedicated woman. After graduating from Rogers High School in June of 1954, she met and married her husband, Ron. They started their family in 1957 where for the first 5 years she was a stay at home mother. She had a desire to return to work where she was hired to type manuscripts for the professors at Williams College in Williamstown, MA. After returning to Portsmouth R.I. in 1968, she held various jobs, but her most favorite was working for the Naval Station, where she worked for 27 years in the Office of Naval Intelligence. As her career was winding down, she was still learning, and returned to finish her college degree from Regents College, where she earned her Associate's in Liberal Arts in 1997. Living in Portsmouth for many years, she was a member of St. Barnabas Church, and a member of the Legion of Mary. She and Ronald enjoyed many wonderful years together, and traveled both across the county and across the oceans, until his death in 1990. Some of her more memorable trips included London and San Miguel, Portugal. In more recent years, Anna was an active member of the Senior Centers in Portsmouth, Bristol and Warren. She enjoyed crafting, especially plastic canvas embroidery, reading, and crosswords. Her great sense of humor kept her youthful and spirited, and many family members remember her trying to get a point across with the help of a flying shoe.

Anna is survived by her children; Dale Leonard, of Bristol, Karen Leonard (daughter-in Law) of Portsmouth, Don Leonard (Sherry) of Bristol, Dawn Chauvin (late Maurice) of Bristol, nine grandchildren and nine Great-Grandchildren. She also leaves her siblings: Rose Amirault of CA, Mary Stonecipher (Don) of CA, Joseph R. Silvia (Margaret) of Portsmouth, Theresa Garcia (Ed) of Middletown, Cecelia Leary of Virginia Beach, VA, Helen Bailey (John) of IN, John R. Silvia (Janet) of Dighton, MA, and Claire Kitchen (Roger) of GA, and many nieces and nephews.

Anna is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 34 years, Ronald Leonard; a son Daniel J. Leonard, and a brother Peter F. Silvia.
