Anne G. Floyd, 88, of Newport, died Sunday, August 28, 2016, at home, cared for by her daughter, loving friends and relatives, and the wonderful staff of Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties.Mrs. Floyd was born November 19, 1927 in Wakefield, MA, the daughter of the late Charles andthe late Esther (Danforth) Getchell. She was the wife of the late Culver J. Floyd to whom she was married to for 52 years.Anne grew up in Lynnfield, Mass and was a graduate of Colby Junior College. She moved to Middletown with her husband in 1960 when Culver took a job at Raytheon. She was a former partner of Iron and Pine, a gift shop on East Main Road and Brick Market Place. After her husband's retirement they spent nearly three years cruising the east coast and the Bahamas on their sailboat "Reverie". Moving back to shore they settled in Plymouth, NH, where she enjoyed her mountain garden for close to 20 years. She returned to Aquidneck Island and lived in Newport for the last 15 years. Besides being an avid gardener, Anne was a devoted dog lover, particularly her beagles.She is survived by her daughter, Lynne Spingler (Henry) of Newport, RI and her son, Jay Floyd of Wakefield, RI.She was predeceased by her daughter, Jane Floyd (Middletown), and her sisters, Marguerite Huff and Virginia Beebe.Her burial will be private.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
