Anthony Daniel Silvestri

Anthony Silvestri, 88, of Middletown, Rhode Island, passed away on October 3, 2018 at Heatherwood Nursing Home in Newport.

He was born August 7, 1930 in Newport, RI to Antonio Silvestri and Anna (Guglielmo) Silvestri, who came to the United States through Ellis Island in the early 1900s from Italy.

Anthony (Tony, Dad and Papa) was a graduate of Rogers High School, class of 1949. He met and married Priscilla (Dolack) Silvestri in Newport and they were together for 62 years.

Tony owned and operated Silvestris Package Store on Broadway in Newport with his brother, John Silvestri, for 22 years. He is a former member of the Newport and Rhode Island Package Store Association. After selling the package store, he was employed as a bus driver for RIPTA until he retired in 1994, and was a member of the Amalgamated Transit Union local #618. He was a dedicated communicant of St. Lucys Church.

Tony was a dedicated husband and supportive father to his children his entire life. He exuded a kind, friendly and polite spirit to all he met. He was a hard worker in whatever task was at hand. In the summer he spent many hours tending to his gardens. He loved to read about World War II history and related biographies, and built dozens of war plane models, some of which still hang in the local hobby shop. He also took his wife Priscilla on yearly vacations to New Hampshire and the Cape.

Tony is survived by his wife Priscilla, and his children: Pamela Flint and her husband Michael, of Middletown, RI, Kathleen Lonergan and her husband Shaun, of Raleigh, NC, and Daniel Silvestri of Middletown, RI. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Randy and David Flint, and Kelly and Kevin Lonergan, and his nieces Catherine Miller Spero of Newport, RI, and Mary Anne Miller Allan and her husband, Thomas, of Middletown, RI.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings John Silvestri, Louise Miller and Lucy Silvestri, niece Anne Miller Duenas and nephew John Miller.

Calling hours will be held on Monday October 8th from 4:00-7:00PM at the Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway in Newport.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 9th at 9:00 am at St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.
