Newport, RI - Archie Roy Brown Jr., 84, of 20 Gould Street Newport, died Friday, November 28, 2003 at Grand Islander Health Care Center Middletown, RI.He was the husband of Giuseppina ?Josephine? Martinelli Brown Jr. Born in Newport, RI on January 16, 1919, he was the son of the late Archie Roy and Marian James Smith Brown.Mr. Brown was a Sargent in the United States Army during World War II, serving in Italy and North Africa. After the war he took over his father?s ice business in Newport, RI, expanding that business into trucking as well. From 1961 to 1969 he owned a nightclub ?Brownies Gardens? on Long Wharf in Newport. Mr. Brown was a member of the Community Baptist Church, the Mason?s Stone Mill Lodge of Newport, the Elks Lodge of Newport and the VFW. He was extremely dedicated in his community service, particulary he served on Marion J. Brown Visitation Committee through the Community Baptist Church. Besides his wife of fifty five years he is survived by his two daughters Oriana B. West of Jacksonville, FL, and Vania Brown of Middletown, RI, his grandson Lance Small Jr. and granddaughter India Small both of Middletown, RI and many nieces and nephews.He was the father of the late Venio Brown and the brother of the late James Brown, Mora Hammonds and Adelaide Bash. His funeral will be held on Monday, December 1, 2003, at 11:00am, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.
