Barbara Ann
Clarke
Dec 19, 1928 — Aug 22, 2026
Barbara Ann Clarke, aged 97, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026. A cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she lived a full and joyful life marked by kindness, warmth, humor, and a deep love for her family.
She was born on December 19, 1928 in Newport RI to Anthony Augustus and Susan Pedro Augustus.
Barbara graduated from Rogers High School in 1947. She married Tom Clarke on June 19, 1948, and they built a life together and raised five children, sharing 59 years of marriage before his passing in 2007. Barbara cared for Tom in his final years with the same devotion she gave her family throughout their marriage.
Barbara and her sisters spent countless summer days at Second Beach with their kids and she passed along to them a love for the ocean that is a gift every time they hear the sound of the waves. Barbara and Tom also enjoyed gathering with their extended families for potlucks, cookouts, clambakes and stuffed quahogs.
Barbara was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing games, cards, and most of all cribbage, especially when winning. She was once dealt four of a kind twice in the same evening at Foxwoods.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom, her dear son, Kenny, her son-in-law Van Westfall, and her cherished siblings, Larry Augustus, Gerry Elshant, Kay Christie, Donald Augustus, and Eleanor Moitoza.
She is lovingly remembered and survived by her brother, Richard Augustus (Kristina) of Ormond Beach, Florida; her son Tommy Clarke (Linda) of Dunnellon, Florida; her daughters, Kathy Sarraino (Mike) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Barbie Westfall of Bremerton, Washington; Christine Shea (Patrick) of Naples, Florida; and her daughter-in-law Denise D'Antico (Rich) of Chesapeake, Virginia. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Stephanie Mohandas (Siddharth), Michael Sarraino (MC), and Jimmy, Nicole, and Kathleen Silveira, and great grandsons Arjun and Sunil Mohandas and many nieces and nephews, who continue to carry her memory in their hearts.
Barbara's gentle spirit, love of her family, and lifelong resilience will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A private family burial will be held. To honor Barbara's life, the family welcomes shared stories and memories, and/or donations in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Alzheimer's Association .
