Barbara M. Day

Barbara M. Day, age 83, of Portsmouth died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, January 6, 2017. Barbara was born December 4, 1933, in Boston, MA, the daughter of the late Arthur and the late Gertrude (Callahan) Leary. She was married to the late Gerald D. Day for thirty-two years who predeceased her in 1989. Barbara graduated from Roslindale M.A. High School in 1952. She worked as an administrative assistant at the Naval War College for thirty-one years and was very well respected amongst the Naval War College community.Barbara loved taking vacation trips with her husband Jerry along with going to the beach enjoying the company of her family and friends.She is survived by her daughter, Joanne Rawson and her husband Steven of Jacksonville, FL, her son Kevin Day and his wife Karen of North Kingstown, RI, her daughter Eileen Peterson and her husband Timothy of Lorton, VA, her son Joseph Day of Portsmouth, RI, and her son Gerald Day and his wife Susanne of Portsmouth, RI. She is also survived by her grandson, Carl and his wife Katie, her grandson, Chris, two granddaughters, Meghan and Laura, and three great grandchildren, Anthony, Allison and Henry.Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, from 4:00-7:00pm, at the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at 10:00am, in the St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.
