Betsy Shivers Brownell was surrounded by love as she moved on to the next phase of her journey at Newport Hospital on December 12, 2018. She leaves behind her siblings and their spouses, Susan (Dale) Taulbee of Boca Raton, FL, Bonnie Brownell, Anne (Mike) Laposky both of Greeneville, TN, Ned (Olinda) Brownell of Fredericksburg, VA, and several nieces and nephews: Marie Cruz, PR, Lindsay Taulbee, FL, Hannah and Sarah Laposky, and Katie Anderson, TN, Elizabeth, Edwin and Ryan Brownell, VA, and several aunts and cousins, and of course her many friends and loved ones at Wood Street and the Maher Center, Bristol. She is preceded in death by her parents, Janet and Ned Brownell, her grandparents Marie and Howard Shivers, and Agnes and Chester Brownell, and her nephew Drew Taulbee.
Betsy lived a long life filled with family, friends and beloved pets. She loved sharing her joy of life with friends and family as well as music, puzzles, animals, and laughter. She had a fantastic sense of humor right to the end. She had a kind, loving, and determined personality. She was genuinely good and generous and will be missed by all who knew her.
Betsys family will be eternally gratefully for the kind care given to her by her support staff at Wood Street and Maher Center. Their many visits and expressions of care and love made Betsy happy in her last hours. Her physicians and nursing staff at Newport Hospital and Hope Hospice were so kind and attentive. Betsys family thanks them all.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2019 at 10:00amin the HamblyFuneral Home, 30 Red Cross Ave, Newport. Burial will follow at St. Marys Churchyard, Portsmouth.
