Carl J. Albanese

Carl J. Albanese, 78, of Middletown, RI, passed away on February 12th. He was the beloved husband of Elaine (Rosenberg) for almost 55 years. He was the father of Carl (Leslie Araujo), Pamela (J. Nordberg), and Marc (Rosanne Felicello). Carl also leaves his adored grandchildren: Madelena, Juliana, and George Albanese, and Marcel and Emil Nordberg. He was the brother of Karen (Denis Robidoux) and the son of the late Eugene and Gilda Albanese.

Born in Providence on January 22nd, 1946, Carl graduated from Classical High School, attended Columbia University, and earned a degree in Engineering Science at the University of Rhode Island. He worked for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, RI for nearly 44 years and continued as a consultant for another 7 years. Carl contributed to advancing technology in underwater acoustics and sonar systems, receiving 33 awards at NUWC, including a citation from the Secretary of the Navy.

Carl was a loyal and devoted husband, father and grandfather. At the drop of a dime, he would travel to Boston, New York, or Los Angeles to spend time with his kids and grandkids. He loved to visit Italy with his wife, Elaine. As a young man he was passionate about photography, and later delved into building computers, investing, and gardening. He will be dearly remembered by his family and friends.


Calling hours will be held Friday, February 16th from 3:00 - 5:00pm at Connor's Funeral Home, 55 West Main Rd, Portsmouth, RI.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 17th at 10:00am at St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Rd, Portsmouth, RI.


Burial will be private.


In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Lifespan Cancer Center, Newport Hospital, Newport, RI, or Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center.


Carl's family would like to thank his medical team: Dr. Robert Cicchelli, Dr. Joseph Pianka, Dr. Howard Safran, and Dr. Scott Swanson for their expert care and compassion.
