Carol Ann Reid (Ormerod)
Carol Ann Reid (Ormerod) of Tiverton, RI, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, August 28, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was 85 years old.
She was born in Portsmouth, RI, the daughter of Henry and Marion (Ibbotson) Ormerod, grew up an only child in a home on the beach. Carol met her husband Jim, when they were young teenagers, at the Island Park show in 1954. They continued to see each other and would dance together at a hall on Lawton Ave, almost every Friday night. Her father and mother would drive her there and pick her up afterwards. They sat together at the show most Saturdays. During summer vacations from school, Jim would pick Carol up on his boat and they would spend time together while he bull raked for quahogs in the cove, near her childhood home.
They married on December 16, 1961 at St. Stephen's Church in Fall River, MA and she began her life as an army wife, traveling to Germany and around the US, raising her two children, Wendy and Wayne, while her husband fought for our country.
She worked in various jobs over the years, finishing her career as a homemaker for the VNA of Newport & Bristol. She always knew how to make the people around her feel loved and cherished. Early on, she helped care for her granddaughter, Steph, as her daughter worked nights as a nurse, a career she had supported and encouraged.
Carol had excellent taste in clothing, home decor, and adventures.
She had a genuine love for beagles, who were always part of her life, through the years. Trouble and Carol were inseparable!
She is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, James Reid; her daughter Wendy LaPointe (Reid), her husband Marc; her son Wayne Reid, his wife Danielle; her granddaughter Steph Luon, her husband Darren and her grandson Joshua LaPointe; as well as her great grandpuppy Ginny.
A memorial service will be held at Connor's Funeral Home in Portsmouth, RI on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Pocasset Hill Cemetery in Tiverton, RI. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Clifton Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.
