Newport - Catherine Elizabeth (Potter) Radcliffe, 88 of Newport, RI, died peacefully, Wednesday, October 26th, 2016, at Heatherwood Rehabilitation and Health Care Center after a very brief illness.Mrs. Radcliffe was born February 21st, 1928 in Elizabeth, NJ the daughter of Charles and Viola (Sailer) Potter.Catherine graduated High School in her hometown of Roselle Park, N.J. and went to work as an editor for McGraw-Hill in New York City. She married Thomas Robert Radcliffe of Quantico, Va. on May 24th, 1952 and traveled with him to his various duty stations with the United States Marine Corps. In 1955 they adopted an infant daughter, Helenmary, while stationed in Lewiston, Maine. Following her husband's military career they settled in Lawrenceville, New Jersey where Catherine continued employment as a retail office supervisor with S.P. Dunham Co. in Trenton, N.J. Following the successive passing of her son-in-law Prescott Tucker and husband Thomas she retired to Newport, RI to help care for her grandson, Ryan.Catherine enjoyed reading, canning homemade relishes and pickles, organizing, family genealogy and attending Ryan's various sports activities. She attended Trinity Church in Newport and served as the clerk for the Archipelago Singles Ministry at the church for the duration of the program. She is survived by her daughter Helenmary (Tucker) Lauth and husband Roy Lauth, her grandson Ryan Tucker and his companion Rachelle Silvia all of Newport, RI, nieces; Dana Gaspar and Kim and Gregory Zinke both of Greensboro, NC, Cynthia Fink-Sullivan and Jon Sullivan of McLean, VA and Jennifer Fink and Lisa Porcella of Lebanon, NJ; nephews Charles A Potter III of Albuquerque, NM and Jay Fink of Cleveland, GA. She is pre-deceased by her sister Mary Louise and her husband Judson Fink of Trenton, NJ and her brother Charles Potter and his wife Arlene of Somerset, NJ.The family is extremely grateful to the staff at Heatherwood Rehabilitation and Health Care Facility and Hospice of Nursing Placement for their very professional and compassionate care. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 12th at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Church in Newport, RI. Visiting hours have been declined at the request of the deceased. Internment with her late husband will be private at a later date.In lieu of flowers donations to Trinity Church Newport may be made in Catherine's memory.
