Chauncey Ffoulke Dewey , 69 of ?Felicity? at 604 Bellevue Avenue, Newport, died at his home on Thursday, February 14, 2002. He was the husband of Elise Archer Dewey. He previously made his home at 4725 Quebec Street, N.W., Washington DC. Born in New York, NY, on May 30, 1932, he was the son of the late Albert B. and Gwendoline Ffoulke Dewey. Mr. Dewey was a graduate of St. Paul School of Concord N.H., Class of 1950, a graduate of Yale University, Class of 1954. While attending Yale, Mr. Dewey worked as a reporter for the NY Times. Following his graduation he then worked as a loan officer in Philadelphia PA at the 1st Pennsylvania Bank. Later he worked at the World Bank in Washington, DC from 1968-1989 he was Director of Global Industry Department of the Bank until his retirement.In 1989- 1992 he was the Director of World Bank and European Bank for the Organization of the Privatization of Russia. Mr. Dewey retired to the Newport area in 1992. He was a member and treasurer of the Newport Preservation Society since 1993. He served on the finance committee of the Boys and Girls Club of Newport County, the Visiting Nurse Service of Newport County, and was on the Board of Directors of the U.S. Naval War College Foundation. He was also a former board member of the Newport Music Foundation. Besides his wife he is survived by a son Chauncey F. Dewey Jr., of Darien, CT, two daughters Elise Adams of Bethesda, MD, and Felicia Gudewill of Vancouver, BC, and seven grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Albert B Dewey. A Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2002, at 11:00AM, in St. Marys Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth. interment will follow in St. Mary?s Churchyard . Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
