Chris A. Pimentel of Portsmouth, RI, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully, on Friday, February 20, 2026 at the age of 73, surrounded by his family. He was the faithful husband of Christine (Brown) Pimentel for 47 years.
Chris was born in Newport, RI to the late Alfred and Mary Pimentel on February 12, 1953. He grew up in the family home in Middletown and was a graduate of Middletown High School.
During this time, he made many lasting friendships that carried him well into his adult life. He followed his father into the plumbing trade, eventually leading him to gaining his Master Pipefitter and Master Refrigeration licensing. He was employed for many years by the Newport Creamery, doing HVAC and refrigeration service work. He retired from National Grid in 2021.
He was a proud father to Ryan J. Pimentel and his wife Laura of Portsmouth, and Amy J. Pimentel of North Providence, and a much beloved "Pop-pop" to Robert S. Pimentel and Kathryn L. Pimentel. These are the roles that he cherished the most. He also leaves behind his "grand dog" Brady, who brought him so much joy. "Chris P", as he was known to many of his children's friends, served as a surrogate father, friend and mentor to many, and he loved them all, always willing to lend a hand or offer advice. He was preceded in death by his parents Al and Mary Pimentel, and his brother, Fred J. Pimentel, and leaves his niece Stephanie Thompson and nephew Matthew Pimentel of Georgia.
He was especially happy to be part of the large Brown family, leaving behind many sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. It wouldn't have been a family gathering without pressing Chris into service to clear a drain or fix a leak.
Chris enjoyed his "meet-ups" over coffee or lunches with friends, his Wednesday night card group, his monthly "clam boil club", and fast cars.
He lived a full life, dedicated to his family and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 10:00 AM in Trinity Episcopal Church, Queen Anne Square, Newport RI,
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Portsmouth Fire Department Rescue Wagon Fund, P.O. Box 806, Portsmouth, RI, 02871
