Christian Wissler Myers II, 76, Portsmouth, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Village House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Newport, RI. Born in Boston, MA on May 13, 1942, he was the son of the late Jacob Christian and Ruth (Kennedy) Myers. Mr. Myers was the son of a U.S. Navy Captain and spent his childhood and teenage years living at multiple naval installations in the United States before settling in Alexandria, VA. He graduated from Randolph Macon College in Ashland, VA in 1965, and lived for a period in Blue Bell, PA, before moving to Newport, RI in 1971. Mr. Myers spent the majority of his career at Raytheon Company in Portsmouth, RI, retiring in 2000, after 28 years working as an Engineer and Program Manager. His Raytheon career allowed him to see many places in the world, including Alaska, Iceland, and the North Pole. He was an active member of Trinity Church in Newport, having served on the Vestry for several years, including terms as Junior Warden, Senior Warden and Treasurer. He was later very active at the church of St. Francis of Assisi in Lake Placid, Florida, where he moved shortly after retirement. During his time in Florida, he enjoyed attending big game dinners with several of his church friends. During his retirement years, Mr. Myers enjoyed two cross country road trips from Lake Placid, FL to San Francisco, CA and back; to enjoy visiting with family on the West coast and the many National Parks along the way. Mr. Myers leaves his children: Christian W. Myers III and his wife Janet of Portsmouth, Lisa Ring and her husband Robert of Middletown, Meredith Myers-LeBlanc of Newport, Christopher Myers and his wife Diane of Portsmouth and Jason Myers and his wife Amethyst of Cranston. He also leaves nine grandchildren: Julia Myers, Olivia Myers, Ian Coyne, Devhan Ring, Brittany Ring, Taylor Ring, Erin Myers, Jonathan Myers and Inara Myers as well as one great-granddaughter Laila Ring and one grand dog named Scarlet LeBlanc. Christian is also survived by his former wives Karen M. Nash of Newport and Elizabeth Nelson of Lehigh Acres, FL. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, February 6, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI. His memorial service will take place Thursday, February 7, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Trinity Church, One Queen Anne's Square, Newport, RI. The family would also like to extend its heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at Village House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center who provided exceptional care to Mr. Myers during the time he was there.
