Claudia L. (Chapman) Vars, 66, of Bristol passed away Monday, April 9, 2018 at home surrounded by her family.Born in Newport, she is the daughter of the late Charles H. and Grace E. (Vickery) Chapman. Claudia graduated from Rogers High School and worked for many years as a CNA and found helping people during the end of their life most rewarding. She loved gardening, crocheting and knitting, but most of all spending time with her grandchildren and feeding them chicken wings and fries.She leaves her husband Lyle V. Bruesewitz of Bristol, her daughters Melissa L. Long and her husband Joshua of Portsmouth, Diana M. Menzes and her partner Henry Simas of Newport, Doris Parton and her husband Charles R. Parton IV of Bossier City LA, Andrea Neal of Middletown and Daniel Bruesewitz of Newport. She also leaves her nine grandchildren, Michael, Sarah, Mathew, Kathryn, Samantha, Franna, Vanessa, K.J., and Gianna as well as three great grandchildren, Isaac, Dereck and Amina.Claudia was the sister of Arnold Chapman of Mississippi, Barbara Bradshaw of Middletown and Harold Chapman of Florida and also leaves many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Doris Freeze, Richard Chapman, Diana Murphy and William Chapman.Calling hours will be held Friday, April 13, 2018 from 9:00AM to 11:00AM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by a service at 11:00AM in the funeral Home.Donations in her memory may be made to the SP-Foundation, 1605 Goularte Place, Freemont, CA 94539-7241 or to Visiting Nurse Home and Hospice, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
