Colin G. Spero

Colin G. Spero, 66, of Westport, MA died peacefully Sunday, April 15, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Joanne C. (Dunning) Spero.Born in Anderson, SC, he was the son of Caesar and Margaret (Healey) Spero of Middletown.Mr. Spero grew up in Portsmouth, RI and graduated with a bachelor's degree from Roger Williams University and a Masters Degree from Salve Regina University. His career in the Defense Industry spanned over 45 years, working for both contractors and the government. Most recently he was employed by the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, in Newport, RI. Prior to his retirement in January of 2018, he was very active with many of his favorite activities and hobbies. He was a charter member of the Viking Riders Motorcycle Club, having served as Past President, and unofficial photographer for the group up until his battle with cancer began. He was supportive of all their charitable activities in the local community and led the riders on the annual Vermont Run each year with great enthusiasm. His free spirit was present in the many other activities he enjoyed, including hunting camp, cooking (the spicier the better), skiing, golfing, sailing, and a love for restoring both old motorcycles and cars. His infectious smile, mischievous spirit and big heart made him the first person to help others, whenever there was a need. He always had a story to tell of his adventures that made you remember some aspect of his love for life.Besides his wife and parents, he leaves his sons: Dylan Spero and his wife Kerri, Ryan Spero and his companion Kendra Johnson all of Middletown. He also leaves his stepdaughter Hope Crain and her husband Scott of Portsmouth and his sister Denice and her husband Chris Pargellis of Newport and his brother Brian Spero and his wife Michelle of Portsmouth.Colin was the grandfather of Faith Spero and step grandfather of Andrew and Alexandra Ready.In lieu of flowers please consider sending contributions to the Viking Riders of RI, P.O. Box 4164, Middletown, RI 02842.Calling hours will be held Friday April 20th from 4:00PM to 7:00PM in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.Funeral Services will be held Saturday April 21st at 9:00 from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. Private cremation will follow the Mass at St. Barnabas church.The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff of the Lifespan Cancer Institute at Rhode Island Hospital for their care and support during his recent battle with brain cancer.
