Daniel Mangini, age 95, of Middletown, RI, passed away on October 14, 2018 at the Royal Middletown Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Mary (Gaspar) Mangini.
Daniel was born in Enfield, CT to Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Mangini. After graduating High School, he began a semi professional baseball career. He was drafted in the US Navy for WW2, and continued his Navy service for the net 30 years. During his time in WW2, he participated in the invasions of Cicily, Salerno, and Anzio. After his retirement from active duty, he worked on the Newport Bridge construction, and for many years at Raytheon. Daniel and Mary were longtime members of St. Lucys Church in Middletown.
Daniel is survived by two sons, Leonel Medeiros and his wife Kathleen of Crockett, CA, John Medeiros and his wife Jann of Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma and Newport, abrother Domenic Mangini of Port Orchard, WA. He also leaves three grandchildren, Kevin Medeiros and his wife Sara Lin of Pleasant Hill, CA, Jason Medeiros of Denver, CO, and Raegan Medeiros and her husband ATCS (AW)James M. Riner, USN of Pax River, MD.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Michael, Sylvester, William, Paul, John, Joseph,and Mary.
Private funeral services were held at St. Columba Cemetery with military honors.
