Darlene Faria

April 18, 1964 — August 17, 2025

Darlene Faria, 61, of Newport, Rhode Island, died on August 17, 2025. She was the wife of the late Scott Poling. Born in Fall River, MA on April 18, 1964, she was the daughter of the late William and Natalie Helpen.

Darlene was a talented CNA and never lost her faith even when setbacks changed her life. She graduated from Diman Vocational Technical High School in Fall River and continued her education. She had many rewarding years working as a CNA in nursing home settings and as a dispatcher for the Newport Navy Base. She liked riding on her motorcycle with her husband, Scott Poling, and cherished the rides along the ocean in Newport. Darlene took up karate many years ago and progressed to earn her brown belt. She was also a great cook, and found great joy when she and Scott would get the family together for a cookout. Darlene always enjoyed a good game of cards, Yahtzee, and a quiet afternoon in the garden.

In the last several years, Darlene found great strength reading the Bible every day. She loved Fall (her favorite season), seeing the water, and enjoying the breeze. She enjoyed playing gospel music and listening to her favorite songs. She also loved going fishing (which she was the best at), eating prime rib at cookouts, and nature. She enjoyed the sight of green (as it was her favorite color), looking at the big blue sky, and gardening. Darlene loved God with all her heart, ever since she was young. She was involved in prayer groups, praying everyday of her life.

Darlene is survived by her children, Alexis and Brandon Poling of Newport, and Tyler Catalan of TN; and a grandson, Alonzo. She also leaves her sisters, Natalie Darling of Lynchburg, VA, Susan Lajoie of Fall River, Debbie Snyder of Greenville, VA, Linda Hathaway of Fall River, Cindy Helpen of Pittsfield, MA; an aunt, Pauline Almeida of Fall River; and many nieces and nephews.

Darlene is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Scott Poling.

Visiting hours will be held in the near future.
