Dennis Brown, beloved husband and father, passed away quietly at home on the morning of August 19th, 2025, aged 79. He leaves his loving wife Mary Ellen Brown (Mobbs), sons Dennis Jr. and Jack, grandchildren Amos, Esme, and Frankie, former spouse Dale, and many friends.
The son of John and Helen Brown (Flannery), Dennis was a lifelong Newporter. He attended De La Salle, graduated from Rogers High School, and studied at Saint Anselm College before beginning a career at Raytheon, where he worked for nearly four decades until his retirement. In his later years, he enjoyed working for the City of Newport, and took special pride in keeping the parks beautiful. When on his rounds in town, he always kept a pocketful of quarters for anyone who needed to feed the meter, along with tidbits of local history. At home, he always did the dishes.
A lover of good books, Dennis spent many happy hours at the Redwood and Newport Public libraries. He also indulged his love of words by completing the New York Times crossword each day, and collecting rare Hemingway editions and Bob Dylan records. He also enjoyed exploring his heritage on trips to Ireland with his wife and son, and with his friends at Newport's many pubs, where his trademark Yankees cap sparked many a great conversation.
Services will be private, according to Dennis's wishes. His family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dennis's Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice team.
