Dennis C. Silvia, 73, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family. Born on July 6, 1952, in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, Dennis was the son of the late Charles and Gertrude Silvia.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Marie Bacon; his brother, Christopher; and his granddaughter, Danarya Camara. He is survived by his children, Charles Silvia (Elle) of East Greenwich and JoNell Camara (David) of East Freetown, Massachusetts; and his granddaughters, Ellenor Blanchette, Clover Silvia, and Cirilla Camara. He also leaves behind his longtime significant other, Leslie Nunes, and her son, Luke Nunes (Nikki). Dennis is further survived by his siblings Kerrie Schoenbaucher (Patrick Mahoney), Barbara Sherman (Bruce), and Charlene Green (Tim).
Dennis grew up on a dairy farm, where he developed his lifelong love for animals and a remarkable green thumb. A true master of living off the land, Dennis was skilled in carpentry and known for his craftsmanship and creativity. Among his many accomplishments was the construction of his distinctive "underground house," a well-known local landmark.
In 2018, Dennis sold a portion of his property to the Aquidneck Land Trust, ensuring that this beautiful piece of land would be preserved and shared with others. He continued to care for the land with great dedication until his passing. As a lasting tribute to his family, Dennis placed two benches in their honor-one at the base of the boardwalk dedicated to his father, Charles, and himself, and another beneath a tree in the open field in memory of his mother, brother, sister, and her husband. Dennis could often be found at his favorite spot-the bench along the boardwalk-taking in the beauty of the land he loved so deeply.
