Doris M. Silvia

Doris M. (Tobin) Silvia, 93, of Middletown died peacefully at home on Saturday, November 5th, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Christopher C. Silvia, Jr.Doris was born on November 5, 1923 in Fall River, MA; she was the daughter of the late John Tobin and Ernestine (Fiola) Tobin Donohue.Doris retired from General Electric after 30 year of dedicated service. She and her husband, Chris enjoyed traveling around the country in their Winnebago visiting family and friends. During those years, she also found a passion for ceramics. She and her daughter Betty spent countless hours in the ceramic studio creating, teaching and enjoying the company of so many people who came every week to create their masterpieces. She was a wife, mother, aunt, sister, grandmother, and truly the matriarch of her family. She is survived by her brother Ernest Tobin of Sacramento, CA and children, Robert A. Silvia of Troy, ME, and Linda A. Poulton of Jamestown, RI. She was the mother of the late Elizabeth A. Shea and Carol A. Barlow. Doris was also the proud grandmother to six; Chris S. Barlow and his wife, Sandra, Peter Barlow and his wife, Tara, Susan Dugan and her husband, Brian, Shay Silvia, Tina Little, BJ Silvia and his wife, Cindy. Doris adored her eight great grandchildren; Anastasia Barlow, Brian and Patrick Dugan, Taylor and Corey Dame, Ben, Nic and Ally Little.Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 11, 2016 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am; funeral services to immediately follow at the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
