Dorothy E. Sweet

Dorothy Sweet, 91, of Middletown, Rhode Island, passed away on June 29, 2018 at the John Clarke Nursing home in Middletown.Dorothy was born in Newport, RI on December 17, 1926, to George Mathewson and Dorothy (Minkler) Mathewson. Dottie was the wife of the late David Sweet. She was a lifelong Newport resident, and a graduate of Rogers High School. Dottie began her working career as a telephone operator, first for New England Telephone then for the Naval Supply Depot; back when a caller would ask for the number, instead of dialing.After her children arrived, Dottie was a stay at home mom, and keeping the records for her husband's business, Dave's Burner Service. Dottie also worked as secretary for the United Baptist Church and was in charge of the soup kitchen. She also worked as in the elementary schools as the lunch lady.In all of life, Dottie's family was most important. she loved her husband and sons, almost to a fault. She was great on advice! She spent the last three years at John Clarke Nursing Home, now she is living in heaven.Dorothy is survived by her son, Marc W. Sweet of Middletown and her brother George Mathewson and his wife Margie of Florida.She was preceded in death by her husband David and a son Christopher D.
