Douglas A. Paquin Sr., 67, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2018 at home in Middletown surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with lung cancer.He was the husband of Theresa M. (Salveti) PaquinBorn in Portsmouth, he was the son of Shirley (Wentworth) Paquin of Middletown and the late Harry R. PaquinHe was well known in the automotive industry for over 40 years working for several local dealerships. Most recently SpeedCraft Volkswagon from 2011 up to his diagnosis in 2014. However, he was most proud being Parts Manager for Toyota of Newport, where he held the position for 16 years and Doug always said my coworkers are an extension of my family.He was active in boy scouts where he was cub leader from 1985-1986 and actively assisted the troop leaders of Troop 3 Newport from 1986 until 1995.Doug was an avid NASCAR fan, many of his friends called him Mr. NASCAR. You could always find Doug on Sunday afternoons during racing season, with his sidekick and beloved dog Sasha, watching the race. He enjoyed going to the races in July up in NH.Doug loved being outside taking care of his yard. He would spend evenings and days off trimming the hedges, mowing the lawn and following his wife around with a bucket cleaning up after her.He loved to travel, his favorites being Ireland, Las Vegas, Florida and San Francisco.Besides his wife of 34 years and his mother, he leaves his children Douglas A. Paquin Jr. of Middletown, Brian J. Paquin of Newport, and Lauren M. Paquin, of Middletown.He also leaves his four grandchildren Douglas J. Paquin, Jordan A. Paquin, Kierra L. Paquin and Jaden C. Paquin, his brother H. Robert Paquin and his wife Dottie of CT, and his aunt Janice Paquin of FL. As well as many nieces and nephews.Douglas was preceded in death by his sister Linda Cook.Dougs family would like to thank Visiting Nurse Home and Hospice and the Middletown Fire and Rescue for the care given to them.Calling hours will be held Friday, August 10, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 8:00PM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.His funeral services will be Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 9:00 AM from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Mary's Church, Spring Street, Newport.Donations in his memory may be made to the Three Angels Fund, PO Box 4001, Middletown, RI 02842 or to the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, 49 Plain Street, Suite 500, North Attleboro, MA 02760 or to the Newport Hospital Cancer Center, 11 Friendship Street, Newport, RI 02840Additional information at www.memorialfuneralhome.com
