Edith Mary Koconis

Edith Koconis of Middletown, Rhode Island passed away peacefully late Thursday night, February 7th, 2019. She was born in Providence to her English immigrant parents Ernest W. Huntley and Lelia Hosier on New Years Day, 1930 and while she travelled broadly throughout her life, she always called Rhode Island home.
Edith grew up in Providence near Smith Street and Mount Pleasant Avenue. She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1948, worked for a local photographer, and eventually met her future husband Herb at a Navy YMCA dance in Newport RI. Herb and Edith were married on February 13th 1954, and were married only a few days short of 65 years at the time of her death. As a Navy wife, she lived in Argentia Newfoundland, Providence and Newport RI, Waukegan IL, Charleston SC, and Norfolk VA, and all three of her children were born in different towns. In later years, Edith and Herb split their time between Middletown RI and Daytona Beach FL, and travelled around the United States and Europe. They lived in Middletown almost half a century, and are longtime members of First Presbyterian Church in Newport. At the time of her death, Edith was at the Cortland Place assisted living facility where Herb also now resides.
Edith is survived by her husband, E. Herbert Koconis, her sister G. Marjorie Huntley and her brother Donald Huntley; by her daughter Susan E. (Koconis) Aland, and her two sons Richard J. Koconis and William D. Koconis; and by three grandchildren: Benjamin D. Aland, Joshua D. Koconis, and Ella G. Koconis.
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, February 13th at First Presbyterian Church in Newport RI, with visitation at 9:30AM, followed by a memorial service at 11AM and a reception immediately following the service. There will be no graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ediths name to the Deacons Fund of First Presbyterian Church at 4 Everett Street, Newport RI 02840.
