Edward C. James Jr

Edward C. James, Jr., 97, of Newport passed away Monday, March 26, 2018 at home surrounded by family. He was the husband of the late Julia A. (Milton) James.Born in Seaford, DE, he was the son of the late Edward C. and Annie Mae (DeShields) James. Mr. James was raised in Newport and graduated from Rogers High School in 1941.He served in the Army as a Private First Class specializing in carpentry in World War II. He is survived by his children Cheryl Butler, Edward C. James, III and his wife Gale all of Providence, Michael James and his wife Janice of Newport, Christine James and her fiance Larry of Middletown, David James and his fianc Wanzana of Stamford, CT, Susan Williams and her husband Everett of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, and Robert James of Newport as well as fourteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.Edward also leaves his brothers and sister, Ralph James and his wife Lois of Middletown, Stanley James of Mattapan, MA and Anna Mae James of Newport.He was the brother of the late George James, Kenneth James, Frederick James, Paul James, and Henrietta James.Calling hours will be held Monday, April 2, 2018 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM in the Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus F.
