Edward R. Dowski

Edward R. Dowski, age 82, of Portsmouth died Wednesday, December 20, 2017 peacefully at home in Portsmouth in his sleep. Edward was born February 10, 1935 in Buffalo, NY. He is the son of the late Peter and the late Mary (Chowaniec) Dowski. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Aldona (Slapelis) Dowski ; a son Edward R. Dowski Jr. Ph.D. of Steamboat, CO; and his daughter Donna McGunigal and her husband Michael, MD of Monument, CO as well as their sons Kevin and Sean.Edward graduated in electrical engineering from University of Buffalo and earned a Master's Degree from Northeastern University. His career started in Signal Corp in New Jersey. In 1962 he joined Raytheon Co. in Portsmouth and remained until his retirement.A gifted athlete, Ed excelled in many sports but tennis and golf was his passion. Travel, a high priority and Aldona and Ed traveled extensively thought their married life. For Ed, Antarctic, Ireland, and Israel were most memorable.Ed's greatest passion was his family, particularly the grandchildren. The boys summered in Newport for many years to this great joy. Their close bond continued to present day. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 13 at St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport, RI.
