Edward T. Vieira

Edward T. Vieira of Portsmouth RI passed away on 28 October, 2017 at the age of 94. Ed was the beloved husband of the late Leah (Izadore) Vieira, and father of Paul Vieira and father-in-law of Karen Joslin Vieira of Portsmouth, RI. Ed was the son of the late Alexandrina (Oliveira) and John Vieira, and resided in Portsmouth during his adult life.Mr. Vieira was a former architectural woodworker for Leeming's Millwork, and the Newport Preservation Society. He was a US Navy Veteran serving in WWII as a SeaBee and fought in the Pacific, He was the recipient of the American Area Campaign Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Ribbon (1 star).Mr. Vieira was an artist in painting and sculpture. An accomplished sailor, he built and sailed his own boat, and built several violins, a cello and a harp. After retirement, he continued to create furniture and carvings, often commissioned for specialty woodwork by Newport contractors and residents. He was a wonderful father and family man. His guidance, perception and understanding will be greatly missed.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2017, from 8:30-9:30am, in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Thursday, at 10:00am, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
