Portsmouth, RI - Elizabeth J. Liz Walker Carroll, 53, of 8 Bourbon Street, Portsmouth, RI, died Saturday, January 3, 2009, at Forest Farm Health Care Center, Middletown, RI. She was the wife of Michael J. Carroll. Born in Woonsocket, RI, on November 26, 1955, she was the daughter of Dorothy Desautels Walker of Newport and the late Robert E. Walker. Mrs. Carroll attended St. Catherines Academy. She was a 1974 graduate of Rogers High School where she was a Business Honor Student. She first worked as a legal secretary for Joseph Going. She then received her Nursing Home Administration License and worked as an Administrator for Forest Farm Health Care Center. She worked for the last 31 years at ABANCO Management Corp., serving as their Vice President. She was honored by the Whos Who in American Business.Mrs. Carroll taught CCD at St. Barnabas and served as a marriage preparation counselor as well. She was a Board Member of the Down Syndrome Society of RI and a Board Member of the Compassionate Friends in Providence where she served as their Newsletter Editor. She also enjoyed, and taught, jewelry making, rubber stamping, beading and knitting. Besides her husband, she is survived by, her son Morgan J. Carroll, her daughters Marina J. Carroll and Lydia J. Carroll, all of Portsmouth, RI, her brother Robert E. Walker of Newport, RI, her brother Peter J. Walker of Pasadena, CA, her brother Timothy R. Walker of Pasadena, CA, her sister Patricia A. Stoliker of Tehachapi, CA, her brother Michael J. Walker of Newport, RI, her sister Mary B. Wren of Georgia, West Virginia, her brother CSM Matthew C. Walker of Fort Benning, GA, and her sister Christine Palmer of Syracuse, NY. She is preceded in death by her son, LCPL Barton J. Carroll.Her funeral will be held on Friday, January 9, at 9:00 am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be private in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 8, from 2-4 and 7-9 in the Connors Funeral Home.
