It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Ann Sawyer, known affectionately as Liz, who left us on February 9, 2026, at the age of 63. Born in Newport, Rhode Island, Liz spent her life in the beautiful Ocean State, making her home in Middletown, where she cherished the simple joys of family, friends, and good food.

Liz dedicated 25 years of her life to Newport Grand now Bally's Tiverton Casino, where her vibrant spirit and warm smile brought joy to those around her. Beyond her career in gaming, she nurtured her passion for cooking, working in various restaurants throughout Newport. Whether whipping up a delicious meal for family gatherings or experimenting with new recipes, Liz had a talent for bringing loved ones together around the table.

Outside of work, Liz enjoyed her quality time spent with sister Jennifer and niece Chloe. Liz enjoyed friendly competition from playing in pool leagues to family poker games that frequented most Sundays with her brother Jamie. Liz's love for her family was evident in everything she did, and she took pride in being a beloved aunt to several nieces and nephews.

Liz is survived by her siblings, James E. Sawyer Jr., and wife Lorraine, of Tiverton, and Jennifer Sawyer of Middletown, her nieces and nephews, Chloe Sawyer, Stephanie Sawyer Peloquin, Skye Bennett, Adam Peloquin, Pheonix Bennett, Roman Bennett, Kahmayah Bennett, Alana Bennett, Chase Bennett, and Willow Bennett.

Liz was predeceased by her parents, James and Nancy Sawyer, her sister, Joan Sawyer Goodrow, and niece and nephew, Walter Bennett and Gabrielle Sawyer.

Her absence will be profoundly felt, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

In the coming days, we will share details of a memorial gathering that will allow us to honor her memory and the indelible mark she left on our hearts. Rest in peace, Liz. You will be missed more than words can express.
