Evelyn Rudisell

Evelyn Julia Ferreira Rudisell age 88, of Tiverton, RI passed away on September 28, 2018 at home with her family by her side after battling cancer.Evelyn was born in Portsmouth, RI, the daughter of the late John and Julia Ferreira also of Portsmouth. She was preceded in death by her sister, Cecelia Price of Blacksburg, VA, and brother, Henry Ferreira of Prudence Island, RI.She leaves a daughter, Judy, and son-in-law, Jay Shallenberger of Ocean Springs, MS.She also leaves three brothers, John, Raymond and Edward Ferreira, as well as two sisters, Lydia Ferrell and Lorraine McBride, all from Portsmouth, RI.She graduated from Rogers High School, Newport, RI and went on to receive her Nursing Degree from St. John's Hospital in Manhattan, NY. Upon graduating, she traveled to Venezuela as a nurse, working for Gulf Oil Company.Evelyn was an avid pilot and loved to travel. In her work and travels, she made homes in Venezuela, India, Hong Kong, and Japan, as well as, Florida, Mississippi and Rhode Island.Upon returning to RI, she worked at Newport Hospital in Newport, RI where she started up their original team of IV Nurse Specialists. Upon retirement, she moved to Biloxi, MS, to live and to continue traveling, most often, with her sister, Lydia, all over the United States and South America.After Hurricane Katrina destroyed her Biloxi home, she moved back to RI and settled in Tiverton, RI.Funeral Service will be private.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southcoast Hospice, 200 Mill Rd., Fairhaven, MA 02719.
