Mr. Fel Vergara, age 96, formerly of Young Drive in Portsmouth, passed away on February 20, 2019, in Middletown surrounded by his children.Fel was born on December 30, 1922, in the Philippines, one of nine children, to the late Gregorio Vergara and the late Severa (Villarasa) Vergara. Fel was the husband of the late Ruth Ann (Condry) Vergara.Fel served honorably in the US Navy for 30 years, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer (CPO). He was a member of the K.O.C. on Aquidneck Island, as well as the V.F.W. and the Fleet Reserve. He loved dancing and was a member of the F.O.B.D. (Friends of Ballroom Dancing).In addition, Fel enjoyed traveling, taking several cruises on the Queen Mary. He liked to bowl and he was an avid tennis enthusiast who loved to both play and watch. He also enjoyed working out and spending time with his friends at the Portsmouth Senior Center.He is survived by his son, Patrick J. Condry and his wife Tammy of Dighton, MA, his daughter, Lissa Smith of Newport, and his grandson Riley Davis Miller of Newport.Visiting hours will be held on Monday, February 25, 2019, from 4:00-7:00pm, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.His funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at 8:30am, at the Memorial Funeral Home, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am, at St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. His burial with military honors will follow at Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.Donations in his memory may be made to the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society, 801 N.
