Francis M. Alves, 75, of Middletown died Friday, November 4, 2016 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI. He is survived by his companion Cinda Queener of Middletown, RI.Born on December 28, 1940 in Newport, RI, he was the son of the late Joseph and Belmeda (Moreira) Alves.Fran was a graduate of Rogers High School, where he played baseball and basketball for the school and also for the North End Club. He worked as a truck driver for Mclaughlin and Moran for over 30years, before retiring. He was a huge sports fan particularly the Red Sox and also all of the New England teams. He was a member of the North End Club and the Sakonnet Fisherman's Club. He is survived by his children, Jackie and her husband Dan Toner of Middletown, RI, Shelly and her husband Jim Delaney of Middletown, RI and Michael and his wife Lisa Alves of Portsmouth, RI, his grandchildren, Kara Toner, Daniel Toner, Tyler Delaney and Kyle Delaney, Victoria Alves and Michael Alves, and his great grandchildren, Jayden and Aiyana. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, from 4-7pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.His funeral will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2016, at 10am in the funeral home.Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Browns Lane, Middletown, RI.
