Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Francis "Frank" "Duke" Cardoza, beloved husband, friend, and dedicated community member, who left this world on March 3, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on August 30, 1938, Francis lived a life rich with experience, service, and love.

Francis proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, where he had the unique honor of serving alongside the legendary Elvis Presley. Throughout his life, he demonstrated unwavering dedication to his community, becoming a cherished member of the 100 Club of Rhode Island and the Preservation Society of Newport. He was a charter member of the President's Club at the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) and an active participant in OceanPointe Christian Church.

As a devoted "foreman" for Doris Duke, Francis played an integral role in the Newport Restoration Foundation, leaving a lasting impact on the preservation of Newport's historical treasures. He was also the proud owner of F. Cardoza Painting Company, where his talent and craftsmanship were evident in every project he undertook.

A true animal lover, Francis enjoyed spending time with his adored fur baby, Abigail, "Abby," who brought immense joy to his life. Above all, he was the devoted husband to the love of his life Beverly Taylor Cardoza, with whom he shared a deep and abiding love. Their bond was a testament to the beauty of companionship and the strength of partnership. Francis was the devoted and loving son-in-law of Mertie Pettis of Middletown, formerly of Georgia. He was also a caring father to Tracy Kim and her husband, Jerry, of Fairfax, VA. He was the brother to George Cardoza of Middletown and Venice, FL, and Barbara Gianetis and her husband, John, of Middletown. Francis leaves behind many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Francis' life was characterized by his steadfast commitment to serving others and his enthusiasm for the arts and culture within his cherished community. He will be remembered for his kindness, his dedication, and his ability to bring people together.

Funeral services for Francis Cardoza will be held on Monday, March 16th at 11:00am at Memorial Funeral Home at 375 Broadway in Newport, RI. Family, friends, and community members are invited to gather for a celebration of his remarkable life.
