Francis Charles Spicola

Francis Charles Spicola, age 79, of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, passed away on August 3, 2018, at the Charlton memorial Hospital in Fall River.

Francis was born in Providence, RI, on August 5, 1938, to the late Francis C. Spicola and the late Margaret (Spacagna) Spicola. He was the husband of the late Bernadette (Rocha) Spicola.

Francis was a mechanical engineer for most of his life. He attended both URI and Brown University, eventually obtaining his Doctorate. He began his career at Pratt-Whitney before starting a nearly 40 year career at NUWC. In his spare time, he enjoyed cooking, photography and traveling the world with his late wife, Bernie.

Francis is survived by his children Frank Spicola and Portsmouth, Peter Spicola of Riverside, Chris Santos of Somerset, MA, Carl Spicola of Richmond, and Maria Brown of Middletown, and his grandchildren, Harrison Santos, Victoria Poland, Diana Poland, and Erin Spicola.

Besides his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his grandson, Jackson Santos.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 13, 2018, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.
