Francisco E. Neves, 89, of Newport, RI, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at his home surrounded by his children and grandchildren.He was the husband of the late Jean Mary (Andrews) Neves.Born in Newport, RI on January 14, 1929, he was the son of the late Edmundo and Maria F. (Monteiro) Neves.Mr. Neves was a 45 year member of the US Merchant Marines. He was an active member of the Cape Verdean Club.He is survived by his children, Jay Anthony Neves of Newport, RI and Nichelle Neves-Smith and her husband, Jeffrey E. Smith, of Tiverton, RI; his brother, Joseph Neves and his wife Alice of Middletown, RI; his sister, Alice Lima of Pennsylvania; his grandchildren, Jordon, Joshua, Jaden, Quinn and Kajta Neves; and his great-grandchildren, Jordan, Joshua, Janessa and Jonathan Neves.Calling hours will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 12:00PM - 1:00PM in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI, with a funeral service at 1:00PM in the funeral home.
