Frank A. Linhares

Frank Anthony Linhares, age 95, humble member of the "Greatest Generation" passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018. Frank served in the Army during World War II. The recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, Victory Medal, and the distinguished Purple Heart Medal.Frank was born on November 6, 1922, in Tiverton, RI. He called the Grand Islander Center in Middletown his home for the last seven years. Formerly a Portsmouth resident, he was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church.Son of the late John and Mary (Ferreia Tavares) Linhares, he was predeceased by his brother Arthur Linhares and sister Alice Cordeiro. Frank was the husband of the late Mary (Anselmo) Linhares, the love of his life. Survivors include son Thomas Linhares and his wife Janet, son Ronald Linhares and grandson Brandon Linhares; his brother James Linhares of Tiverton, RI, and many loving family members and friends.Frank retired as a Transportation Dispatcher from Naval Station Newport in the late 1970s.To the end, Frank never lost his sense of humor, smile or easy going appreciative nature. Throughout life, Frank was a loyal man who enjoyed helping others. He especially loved helping family members build their homes, care for their children, mow their lawns, and so much more... He was also a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Frank will be dearly missed by all who knew him.Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 23, 2018 from 4:00-8:00 pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 24, at 10:30 am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am at St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
