On July 31, 2018, the Lord commissioned the homegoing of Franklin H. Ray, surrounded by his companion Rose and the loving friends at Orchard View Manor in East Providence, RI, at age 81. He was the first born to the union of Franklin Hopkins Ray and Elizabeth Shevlin Ray on November 25, 1936 in Portland, Oregon.
Frank attended Beaverton High School. Upon completion of those studies he joined the US Navy. During his elistment he attended Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI, served in tours in Vietnam, and traveled the world during more than 20 years of service. After his retirement from the Navy, he settled in Middletown, and began work as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service in Providence. He then began a second career as a technical writer, first at NUSC and later at McLaughlin Research.
Franks retirement years were spent enjoying life with the Love of His Life Rose. They took day trips throughout New England, shopping, and holiday celebrations. He also enjoyed keeping in contact with his Navy buddies through social media. He loved country music and old western movies, and was a loyal Patriots and Celtics fan, and was usually seen with a huge cup of black coffee in his hand.
In addition to the love of his life Rose, he leaves to celebrate the gift of his life, two brothers, Donald and his wife Jane of North Carolina, and Jim and his wife Jackie of Oregon. Frank also had a daughter Dianne Upchurch-Ray and a son Donald Philip Ray. Frank was affectionately known as Papa by Bridget, Dana and Jerry and were considered family by him.
Frank was a kind, loving and generous gift to us, a gift that we shall forever treasure. May his soul rest in peace and light perpetual shine upon him.
