Middletown, RI - Frederick L. Carpenter, 87, of 303 Valley Road, Middletown, RI, formerly of 21 Murphy Circle, Middletown, RI, died Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of the late Eileen Frances Brady Carpenter. Born in Newport, RI, on August 7, 1921, he was the son of the late Melvin and Hazel Neff Carpenter. He was a graduate of Rogers High School. Mr. Carpenter served in the United States Army during WWII. He worked for the Federal Civil Service at NETC as a personnel staffing specialist and he also worked at the Preservation Society at the Marble House as a guide. He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, where he served as the financial secretary for the church. Mr. Carpenter was a member of the Newport Lodge of Elks. He is survived by his daughter Joan F. Kokernak and her husband Russell of West Warwick, RI, his son Robert N. Carpenter of California, his grandson Jeremy Booth and his wife Mandy of Middletown, RI, his granddaughter Stephanie Beazley and her husband Brian of Broomfield, CO, his great grandson Jace Booth of Middletown, RI, and his great granddaughter Alexis Beazley of Broomfield, CO. He was the brother of the late Norman L. Carpenter and Melvin Carpenter, Jr. His funeral will be held on Friday, January 16, 2009, at 11:00am, in Calvary United Methodist Church, Turner and Wyatt Roads, Middletown. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2009, from 4-7, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Memorial donations may be made to Rhode Island Multiple Sclerosis Society, 205 Hallene Road, Warwick, RI 02886 or the Newport Hospital, 11 Friendship Street, Newport, RI 02840.
