George Clifton Towle, Jr.

George Clifton Towle, Jr., 90, passed away Friday night quietly in his sleep at Village House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on December 18, 1928, in Providence, Rhode Island to the late George Clifton Towle, Sr. and Mildred (Marston) Towle.Mr. Towle attended Newport schools and was retired from the Newport Electric Corporation, where he worked for thirty-three years. He was a member of the Portsmouth, Newport County Pomona, and Little Compton Granges, the Excelsior Lodge of Independent Odd Fellows, the Newport County Chapter AARP, the Newport Electric Corporation Retirees and the United Baptist and First Presbyterian Churches.Mr. Towle leaves his wife, Marguerite Frances (Augustus) Towle, a son, George David Towle, and his wife Margaret Hoy, of Florida, a daughter, Debra Eaton and her husband Steven, of New Hampshire, two sisters; Shirley Rudy of Massillon, Ohio and Carol Greene of Middletown, Rhode Island, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.A funeral service will be held at the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, Rhode Island, with Rev. Paul Hanson of the United Baptist Church officiating on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at 11:00am. Internment will follow at the Newport Memorial Park.Calling hours will be from 5-8 pm at the Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, December 28, 2018.
