George E. Elshant Jr

George E. Elshant, Jr., 65, of Middletown died Monday, August 29, 2016 at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center, Newport. He was the husband of Catherine "Cate" E. (Smith) Elshant.George was born in Newport, son of Geraldine (Augustus) Elshant of Middletown and the late George E. Elshant, Sr.He served as a military policeman in the Army National Guard. George worked for Saccucci Lincoln Mercury and Gill Landscaping. He coached Middletown Little League and his memberships included the North End Club, Tiverton Rod and Gun Club, the Middletown Knights of Columbus. Besides his wife Cate and mother Geraldine he leaves his children Gregory G. Elshant and his wife Christina of Portsmouth, Daniel F. Elshant and his wife Danielle, Paul J. Elshant and his wife Erica and Amy C. Elshant all of Middletown. He was the grandfather of Carmen, Sebastian and Lorelei Elshant.George was the brother of Donna Morra and her husband Robert of Middletown, and Susan Costa and her husband Jimmy of Bristol and uncle to many nieces and nephews.Calling hours will be held Saturday, September 3, 2016 from 2:00 to 6:00PM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Funeral Services will be private.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Dr. Dickerson's Demetias Research Fund at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
