George J. Rezendes, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, departed this life on August 19, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on May 17, 1950, in Fall River, Massachusetts, George resided in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, where he built a life filled with love, family, and unwavering commitment to his community.
George was a proud graduate of Portsmouth High School and Roger Williams University, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree. He went on to build a distinguished career in finance, working as an accountant for Newport Harbor Corporation and Raytheon before becoming Chief Financial Officer of the Newport County YMCA. Beyond his professional career, George was dedicated to the organizations that were meaningful to him, contributing his time and talents to the Tiverton Rod and Gun Club and actively participating in the Portuguese American Club. His commitment to these organizations reflected his generous spirit and the importance he placed on community and friendship.
George was an avid car collector and fisherman who cherished his time on the water. He loved to travel and especially enjoyed his memorable trip to the Azores and the many cruises he took. George also had a deep love of music, especially The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, and enjoyed playing the guitar. A true sports enthusiast, he was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. His many hobbies and interests brought him great joy and created countless cherished memories throughout his life.
George shared a remarkable 51 years of marriage with his lifelong sweetheart, Kathy Rezendes. Together, they nurtured a loving family, which includes their children: Julie (Eric) Macklin, Laura (Randy) Van-Scyoc, Kristen (Mike) Kowalczyk, and Andrew (Helena) Rezendes. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Tristan, Mimi, Payton, Greyson, Lexi, Emerson, and Asher, all of whom will carry his legacy forward. George is also survived by his sister, Kathy (Bob) Janik.
Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, August 25 from 4:00-7:00pm at Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, August 26 at 10:00am at St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Newport Hospital Cancer Center, located at Turner Building, 1st Floor, 20 Powel Avenue, Newport, RI 02840, or Hope Health Hospice Center, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI, 02904 in honor of George's memory.
George was preceded in death by his parents George and Gertrude Rezendes.
